THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Whetstone Tavern Restaurant Review:

THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED About the chefs & décor: Chef Jeremy Nolen and his pastry chef wife Jessica made their name with German food at the nearby Brauhaus Schmitz, but here they lend their talents to a broader palette. Décor nods to local chefs (and the restaurant name) with a Wall of Knives; however, it’s otherwise warm and simple with natural woods and a pressed tin ceiling.

Likes: Burger; tomato salad; desserts; beer list.
Dislikes: Noisy.

Food & Drinks: The menu encompasses brunch, lunch and dinner. Start the meal with a tomato salad riffing on Middle Eastern flavors with whipped feta cheese and a sprinkling of ras el hanout or beef cheek pierogis with cured egg yolk. Large plates might include hanger steak with a savoy cabbage Caesar salad and brown butter potatoes or hand-cut spaghetti with potato chips, almonds, ramps and sausage. Finish up with one of Nolen’s well-crafted desserts, like the banana cream cake with caramelized white chocolate and milk chocolate ganache. Nineties-themed cocktails such as the Fellows Who Are in the Mood (rye, Luxardo, vermouth and pink peppercorn-orange marmalade) or a selection from the nicely rounded draft list aptly accompanies the eats. Visit on weekend mornings for duck confit and butternut squash hash or Meyer lemon and passionfruit waffles.
