The Whisper Lounge Restaurant Review: Yes, it's located in a shopping mall and has been better known for its bar than its food. But Whisper has elevated the level of its cuisine, making it an unexpected secret tucked away in a corner of The Grove. An intimate, upscale interior of dark wood banquettes and sexy burnt orange sconces satisfies the design-conscious customers, and an outdoor lounge, adorned with flowing draperies and streamlined couches, even offers a bit of Sunset Strip style. Executive chef Anthony Jacquet seems to have a sure hand with comfort food, including mac ānā cheese with pancetta, Fontina, Gouda and cheddar, a large iceberg wedge, lamb bolognese with tagliatelle, and Jidori chicken with maple-bourbon yams and bacon. Chocolate bread pudding with a Jameson caramel sauce is a satisfying dessert. Look for first-rate happy hour drink specials, live jazz and occasional wine tastings during the week, or join the crowd stopping in for post-cinema libations Friday and Saturday nights.
