Whitechapel Restaurant Review:

With no less than 370 gins in stock (the largest collection in North America), the only thing more impressive than Whitechapel’s legion of gin cocktails is the whimsical concept that houses them, courtesy of local bar celebs Alex Smith (Novela, Gitane) and Martin Cate (Smuggler’s Cove). One part Old London underground, two parts Wells and Verne, Whitechapel is an intoxicating elixir of Victorian steampunk. The hefty cocktail menu guides imbibers through the origins of the spirit, culminating in an inspired and playful lineup of Whitechapel originals, including a house G&T on draught. While not the main attraction, selections from the spirit-friendly menu are not to be missed. We particularly enjoyed the savory King’s Porridge. An eclectic supporting cast includes a spicy farmer’s cheese and naan, steak and oyster pie and buttery mussels vindaloo. A trio of desserts features airy poffertjes (Dutch pastries) and a fantastical tribute to spotted dick.
