The Korean art of preserving and presenting food in a meaningful aesthetic manner is on rich display at this Korean restaurant. Pickled, salted, fermented and spicy---it all comes to the table in the little vegetable dishes that are so singularly Korean yet uniquely flavored in each establishment. We liked the spicy baby zucchini, crisp yet tender, its green and red colors adding a bright note to the array of dishes. Bring a pack of pals and order Gujeolpan, for which an arrangement of foods is displayed in eight segments of an octagonal dish. A round center section holds thin crêpe-like pancakes to fill with the morsels of your choice, and then daub with one of two rather zingy sauces. Cellophane noodles form the basis of japchae, where they're stir-fried in sesame oil and tossed with vegetables, such as shredded carrot, spinach and mushrooms, and garnished with sesame seeds. Kimbap is the Korean California roll, filled with tasty ingredients and rolled in dried seaweed. Marinated, grilled beef ribs are delectable and tender. There's no dessert, and beer is the quaff of choice, but you could sample some soju (saké-like rice wine) or other traditional beverages. We suggest sipping the cold, slightly sweetened cinnamon tea offered in small saucer-shaped bowls as a final fillip.
