Woodlands Grill at Barnsley Gardens Restaurant Review: Overlooking the golf course, Woodlands Grill’s dining room and screened-in porch provide a splendid view of the rolling north Georgia landscape. Under the expert guidance of the resort’s landscape gardener, vegetables and herbs have been planted for the restaurant’s use, so we’re puzzled as to why this posh property fails to tap into the local and regional cuisine movement. That said, there are a few nods here and there, such as in a grilled pimento cheese sandwich, and we confess to enjoying the spicy mac ‘n’ cheese bites. Blackened fish, somewhat Southern, is served over “Southern creamed rice.” Short rib sliders are the most interesting morsels on the lunch menu. Although a breakfast buffet is available on Saturdays and Sundays, we suggest sticking with the breakfast menu. Woodland’s wine list ranges between popular brands and very expensive cult wines, but we’ve experienced reds served too warm from time to time.
