Ya Hala Restaurant Review:
Very much off the beaten track, this tiny Lebanese eatery with its visible kitchen and cooks at the grill offers some tasty Middle Eastern dishes. Many will sound familiar: baba ghanouj, hummus and tabbouleh are on many ethnic menus around town. More unfamiliar are sfiha (meat pie), mankousheh (dough topped with cheese), and fatteh (condensed yogurt, chickpeas, garlic and toasted bread). Entrées such as chicken shwarma and a falafel platter come with rice, yogurt, hummus or salad. But the focus is on the pita wrap sandwiches: lahem meshwi (lamb kebab) finds tender meat brightened by house herbs and grilled vegetables. Desserts include taj el malek (pistachio mixed with sugar and rosewater) and znoud el-sit (dough filled with kashta, fried, and covered in syrup). The strongest drink available is Turkish coffee.
