Yang Chow Restaurant Review: Opening its doors in 1977, Yang Chow --- named after the town outside of Shanghai from which the five founding Yun family brothers hail --- has become a Chinatown institution. Prices are reasonable, and favorites like the slippery shrimp (lightly battered shrimp possessing both heat and sweetness), lamb with scallions, and Szechwan wontons in a zippy, aromatic broth keep delighting patrons. Seafood dishes like kung pao squid, moo shu shrimp, and scallops with oyster sauce are also popular. Family-style dinners are available nightly, and include an egg roll, soup and a choice of entrée for each person. Also located at 6443 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, 818-347-2610; and 3777 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, 626-432-6868.
