From the fertile culinary minds of Lark Creek Restaurant Group comes Yankee Pier, an upscale café that both honors and updates the venerable New England seafood house concept. The restaurant is suitable for the entire family, featuring a kid-friendly design of corrugated steel walls and wood plank flooring to evoke the feeling of being on a waterfront dock. (The raw bar is even housed in a ten-foot-tall lighthouse with a working beacon.) The decadent appetizers, such as the crispy popcorn shrimp and the peel-and-eat tiger prawns, are great to share. Try the fried Ipswich clams, available both as an appetizer and a main meal---full belly clams that are plump, sweet and briny. Another New England favorite, the Maine lobster roll, is done almost right (it’s missing the celery salt). Yankee Pier also has a lengthy list of fresh fish served grilled or oven roasted. Save room for homemade dessert---best choices are a slice of lemon meringue pie or Ogden’s famous butterscotch pudding.
