| YaYa means grandma in Greek, but this place is definitely not your grandma’s kitchen. Outside, it looks like one of those big box stores in a suburban shopping center; inside, great stone pillars, faux-stone walls and huge wrought iron chandeliers make it look like the inside of a European castle. The large balcony (overlooking a pond and fountain) is great for summer dining and people watching. During lunch, the place is full of DTC power brokers. At dinner and on Sundays, it is locals having a good meal and talking table to table. On a recent visit, we enjoyed a creamy lobster and rock shrimp risotto, followed by oak-roasted chicken with porcini-sweet corn gnocchi in a lemon-thyme broth. The wood-fired pizzas are a specialty and our favorite is topped with the house-cured Italian sausage, smoked mozzarella, arugula, roasted peppers and caramelized red onion. We also like the oven-roasted fish. It might be salmon, sea bass or trout---chef Tom Lee knows how to make it crispy on the outside but flaky-moist inside. Plan to share because portions are very large. The wine list is extensive and well-priced. If you order by the glass, the wine is poured at your table so you can see your selection. Service is friendly and relaxed but, at lunch, can be a bit brusque. |
