| Named for the tart citrus fruit, this contemporary Japanese pub features top ingredients, an extensive saké list and relatively affordable prices. The dining room flaunts raked plaster walls, indented red tile work and a triptych of bamboo panels near the entrance. As for the food, chef Kaz Akutsu offers intriguing sushi and sashimi, including some rarely seen varieties of seasonal fish flown in from Japan. A central charcoal-fueled grill known as an “aburiyaki” turns out slices of wild duck and honey-marinated Kurobuta pork loin. Better still is the char-grilled lamb, seasoned with sea salt and fresh wasabi. Notable fried items include Hama Hama oysters and minced Kobe beef. If you’re thinking noodle, order the soba prepared with yuzu rind, presented on a bamboo mat. For dessert, don’t miss the house-made yuzu sorbet served in a martini glass, or the cherry blossom mochi filled with chunky red beans. |
