THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zaitzeff Restaurant Review:

Zaitzeff doesn’t fool around with frilly décor or a complex menu, and with good reason: if you’re here, it’s because you’ve heard of the first-rate burgers. That’s not to minimize the interior of the restaurant, a sweet space with white tile floors, a long black bar with ceiling fans rotating overhead and picture windows that look out on Avenue B. Burgers range in size up to a half pound, using either natural sirloin or Kobe beef. With a Portuguese muffin for the bun, the only snafu in an otherwise juicy, smoky experience is the tendency for the kitchen to overcook the burgers unless explicitly instructed to make them rare. French fries are prepared with sweet potatoes or regular potatoes, or you can opt for a mixture of the two. If you're not up for a burger, the salad options are plentiful and high-quality, including a crisp Caesar and a lively mixed green salad with avocado. There are also non-burger sandwich offerings: we recommend the sirloin sliders with white cheddar and grilled onions on mini Portuguese muffins; the veggie burger with a nice, smooth surprise of avocado slices; or the organic chicken breast sandwich served with lettuce, tomato and grilled onion.
