Zankou Chicken is a popular chain that dates to 1962 in Beirut. The late Vartkes Iskenderian relocated to L.A. and planted the first flag in Hollywood in 1983. Now the family has locations across L.A. County. At this Van Nuys location, order at a stainless steel counter from an overhead menu and either grab a wood table to eat in-house, or grab-and-go. Zankou specializes in rotisserie chicken. For under $10, you can feast on a half-chicken plate with crisp-skinned, tender rotisserie chicken, the family’s famed garlic sauce, creamy hummus, tart pickled turnips and bagged pita bread. Other popular options, which are all available in either pita sandwiches or plates, include falafel, beef shwarma and shish tavouk.
