THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zare Restaurant Review:
At lunch, the warm, cavelike room fills with suits who love the braised rabbit with mushrooms and artichokes in tarragon cream sauce or the grilled lamb sirloin at this popular Mediterranean spot. Chef-owner Hoss Zaré uses bold flavors in unusual combinations: a foie gras appetizer is wrapped in salmon and matched with a port wine reduction; a napoleon of artichokes and Dungeness crab meat is melded with a spicy chive-infused oil. Spiffy desserts include Champagne zabaglione and a chocolate soufflé with mascarpone. Half the fun at this place is watching Zaré and his crew work in the open kitchen. Also located at 11507 Polk St., San Francisco, 415-775-4304.
