The Zax of San Francisco has been reinvented as Zax Tavern in Berkeley by the same husband-and-wife team. Many of the simple and seasonal menu items that were the trademarks of the erstwhile North Beach eatery have been carried over from its former location, including the famed twice-baked goat cheese soufflé. The décor is soft and elegant without pretension, and the vibe is friendly and fun.
