Cole Valley’s tiny business district has remained quaint and charming despite being just blocks from the busy, commerce-clogged Upper Haight. But word of this French restaurant at its heart has spread through the city. If you can stand the lines and what has become markedly indifferent service, the flower-strewn patio, dappled with sunlight, is one of the prettier places in the city to sip a café au lait and enjoy a fine croque madame or spicy chorizo sausage and white cheddar scramble. Evenings, the exposed brick room, accessorized with European posters and antique wood pieces, fills with the smells of homespun French dishes like roasted trout, pastas tossed with fresh vegetables and delightful desserts.
