THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zed's Ethiopian Cuisine Restaurant Review:
This Ethiopian eatery has long played to Washington crowds, and its white-tablecloth setting in a fancy corner location on M Street is as stylish as any French restaurant. But somehow Ethiopian cooking loses something when it’s moved away from the colorful basketry tables; large, humble serving dishes; and casual settings, where eating with one’s fingers seems perfectly acceptable. Most dishes offered here are rich stews, some fiery and all intended to serve one. Coming here with friends means ordering several dishes, served on a large wheel of injera, the traditional Ethiopian flatbread. We love doro watt (chicken stewed in a peppery sauce) and yebeg kaey watt (lamb stewed in a similar sauce). Two people might consider the combination dish with four choices. The best accompaniment is chilled African beer, followed by a piece or two of pastry for dessert.
