 Charming as it is, downtown Montrose has never been home to a hot dining scene, but Zeke’s (named after a dog, by the way) draws ’cue aficionados from all over SoCal. It's a homespun, casual eatery. The ribs---Memphis-style baby backs or Kansas City spare---rank among the best in town, and every table is equipped with three barbecue sauces, including a mustard-based sauce well-suited to the slow-cooked Carolina pulled pork that is pure Southern comfort. Sandwiches range from Southern fried catfish with rémoulade to Texas brisket to a veggie burger for those who wandered into the wrong restaurant. The Smokehouse Chili is worth sampling, too. Desserts include pecan pie, fruit cobbler à la mode and bread pudding with bourbon sauce.
