The shiny floorboards are recycled, chairs are a mismatched selection culled from around Europe and the artwork mostly repurposed vintage collectibles inside this white-washed eatery at Hong Kong’s Pacific Place mall. Shoppers can take a break to refuel with creative bites like the crispy endive lettuce leaves stuffed with blue cheese, strawberries, walnuts and green apple. If that sounds too quirky, keep things simple with the grilled vegetables platter. Homesick Spaniards have been spotted munching on the fried calamaris served with ham croquettes, cod croquettes and breaded ham and San Jacopo cheese, as well as the indulgent Spanish cheese platter decked out with rosemary manchego, red wine goat cheese, Roquefort, Tetilla and Idiazabal. Seafood stands out, especially the saffron paella with shrimps, scallops, calamari, clams and sausage. But not to be overlooked is the sautéed Iberian pork chops accompanied by mango and pumpkin purée and pear chutney, sprinkled with herbs. Chocoholics face a choice between the Spanish flan over banana cake with caramel coffee and chocolate cookie, or the equally delectable “8 Texturas de Chocolate.” The wine list, while focused on Spanish sips by the glass or bottle, also offers a thoughtful selection from neighboring Portugal as well as Argentina and even Israel.
