THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED In sleepy Montrose, coveted for its Mayberry-like vibe, one doesn’t expect to find a hip Pan-Asian eatery with sleek finishes and dramatic colors. But trendy Zen Asian Bistro, with the looks of a Sunset Strip eatery, packs in the locals with its extensive menu of traditional dishes from throughout Asia, along with some contemporary inspirations. Much of the menu is Thai-inspired---with items like laab salad, stuffed chicken wings and curries---but few of these dishes impress us, nor do more innovative items like the avocado "bomb" (a baked mousse-like combination of avocado and crab). Even kung pao chicken, a relatively simple Chinese dish, is tasteless, colorless and aesthetically unappealing. Perhaps this handsome spot will get into its groove over time.
