THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zen Cafe Restaurant Review: Reserve well in advance or plan on dining elsewhere, since this one-of-a-kind dining room and sushi bar in the On Broadway Event Center is hip-hopping with under-30 types, and is open only on Friday and Saturday nights. The rest of the time, the vast nightclub-meeting space in a 1925-vintage former bank building is available for private events, usually corporate sponsored. Apart from sushi, the menu, supervised by chefs George Lepre and Cesar Avila, offers some 60 items, including East-West fusion specialties like blackened rib-eye with red curry spinach, and teriyaki salmon with Asian vegetables. Sushi rolls include the Chef George King Mushroom Veggie Roll and the Surf-and-Turf Roll with steak and soft shell crab. The stylish crowd wolfs down the chow through the night, then works it all off on an immense dance floor. We find the scene frenetic but fun, and the cuisine rather good for a setting so devoted to hip entertainment. |
