Zin American Bistro, Palm Springs, CA

Zin American Bistro Restaurant Review

: For more than a decade, Palm Springs residents and visitors alike have flocked to Zin American Bistro. The menu and its execution never disappoint, nor does the endless parade of passersby up and down Palm Canyon Drive. The restaurant is snug with tables spilling out onto the sidewalk. The bar, ideal for solo diners, fills with chatter as the night progresses. Food pays tribute to the late chef-owner Nicolas Klontz with some Belgian classics, such as carbonnade and three different preparations for mussels. Basics comprise robust American dishes: buttermilk-fried chicken, a Zin burger, a “very adult” macaroni and cheese, and apple pie. Mindy Reed, wine director and co-founder of Zin, carries on Klontz's mission of coaxing customers into more adventurous realms, too, with seasonal specials and such bistro mainstays as rabbit in mustard sauce and veal sweetbreads with puff pastry. Her regular wine dinners show off her knowledgeable palate.
