| This casual sidewalk café cum tapas bar cum bistro is the creation of the late Nicolas Klontz and Mindy Reed, the founders of Zin American Bistro, just half a block down the street. It's a fun, casual place with an emphasis on bold flavors. The tapas menu, with its low prices and promise of culinary adventure, offers good value---the tapas are mainly Spanish, but Reed has included a couple of pastas that hardly qualify as small plates. Whether you go for the grilled calamari stuffed with chorizo and garnished with capers and fried parsley, or the grilled artichoke heart with asparagus, Serrano ham, manchego cheese and a fried egg, your palate will remember the experience. The main menu puts its emphasis on Italian dishes, but it ventures onto further shores with such items as a lamb, chickpea and merguez sausage couscous that's well worth the trip. Trust Reed's wine selections---she doesn't put any obvious choices on her list, but you can't come to harm following in her footsteps. |
