| Lacking the sports bar demeanor of its younger sibling establishment, the original Zuma Sushi & Sake Bar has a classy, contemporary interior. The sushi chef, though, doesn't do much to interact with customers. We advocate keeping things simple. Sea bass sashimi and spicy lobster salad are delectable enough, but the place loses points for the pink pickled ginger. The large vegetable hand roll is virtually a salad, crunchy and tasty, ideal for vegetarian companions of sushi mavens. Fried calamari roll was one of the clumsiest and least appealing versions of the dish we've ever been presented, with not much in the way of flavor other than from the spicy mayo squirted on top. A long saké list offers quality chilled selections, but the smallest serving is 300 ml.---almost a half bottle. So bring friends if you want to indulge. A minimal wine list offers some choices by the glass. Dessert is an assortment of ice creams. Best deal is the lunch all-you-can-eat for $15, or sushi/sashimi lunches for $8.95. |
