Averna Limoni di Sicilia - Liqueur Review

That's Amore!

Averna Limoni di Sicilia is a refreshingly sweet lemon liqueur

We've been enjoying Averna for a long time and were happy to see it finally forge its way into American bars and restaurants as of late. The traditional herbal digestive from Sicily, which dates back to 1868, makes for a lovely finish to an Italian meal, post espresso.

The company's latest offering, Averna Limoni di Sicilia, is a lemon liqueur that tastes a lot like limoncello. It's sweet without being syrupy and it doesn't have that artificial lemon flavor you find so often with lemon liqueurs. Instead, it has a powdered sugar-like lemon profile with a hint of anise. Its milky yellow color is delightful, too.

The 54 proof offering is citrusy enough to make for a refreshing afternoon summer drink over ice. Naturally, it would make a great aperitif. The alcohol taste is faint but noticeable enough to give the sweet flavors something to lean on. And you can definitely feel it. Yes, it is a bit feminine, but if a hot-blooded Sicilian can sip it, the dudes in your life will certainly not be too manly for it!
