Tea time is redefined at the Park
Hyatt Washington. The Tea
Cellar and Lounge, replete with more than 50 varieties
of rare and limited-production, single-estate
teas from remote regions of China, Japan, Sri
Lanka and the Himalayas.
Made of glass and kept at the perfect temperature
of 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the new cellar is the
first of its kind in the United States for storing
and aging tea.
Teas
are supplied by MITEA, and trained sommeliers
are on hand at the lounge to guide visitors through
one of the most exceptional lists we’ve
ever seen. Try a pot of the special 1985 Royal
Reserve Pu-Erh,
grown in China and aged roughly twenty years in
a cave, for a cost of $300 per pot. Reserve teas
are available by the pound, at prices ranging
from $150 to $850. The lounge offers regular tastings
and selections of iced
tea, tea cocktails and herbal
tisanes. Food selections change daily, but there is always a variety of pastries available
from 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
