Talbott Teas Luscious Lemon Meringue Blend - Review
Rooibos and The Oprah Effect
We were aware of the so-called "Oprah Effect" on books which catapulted unknown authors into the literary limelight while selling millions of copies. But how does the Oprah Effect apply to tea? Very well, as Shane Talbott and his partner Steven Nakisher, the masterminds behind the stylishly packaged Talbott Teas, found out in 2008.
Talbott approached the manager of The Oprah Store with the idea of creating a special blend for the shop. The manager agreed and said that Oprah's only stipulation was that the blends be made with her beloved South African Rooibos. So Talbott, who will only settle for what he deems a "cup of couture," got to work. Six blends later, his creations were all accepted and sold at Oprah's store. A short while later, Talbott Teas were selected as one of Oprah's Favorite Things. The Oprah Effect had come full circle and Talbott Teas had become a household name and successful tea emporium.
We tried six of their best-selling blends, all harmonious and melodious, but our favorite was the Luscious Lemon Meringue. Its name is a bit misleading, as instead of strong lemon flavors, you really taste the full-bodied African rooibos base along with the vanilla, with just a hint of lemon and lemongrass for balance. We brought out the blend's natural sweetness with a dash of raw agave nectar for a lovely afternoon pick-me up sans caffeine. Be sure to follow Talbott's instructions to use water just shy of boiling, in order not to scorch the tea's delicate ingredients.
Watch out for Talbott and Nakisher on an upcoming reality show in February 2012!
