Turkish apple tea transports us back to happy times exploring the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul. There, merchants pounce on hapless tourists, continuously assaulting them with small glasses of the sweet stuff. The treats didn't make us want to buy another rug or evil eye necklace, but they did sweeten the day. Whittard offers a fine instant version inspired by the traditional Turkish brew. It is definitely on the sweet side and probably contains more cane sugar than we want to know, but you're really just supposed to imbibe a small amount of it. Turkish tea is normally served in wee, delicate glasses, not the gigantic mugs we're accustomed to in the U.S.
Other instant tea offerings from the British retailer, who's been selling tea, coffee and more since 1886, include Damson Plum, Blackcurrant & Elderflower and English Fruits. They are all rather saccharine but they make a nice afternoon treat for visitors at tea time or anytime you have a craving for a sweet pick-me-up.
