Tazo began life as a small, Portland-based specialty-tea company. Known for creating unique blends with New-Agey names such as “Awake” and “Zen,” the brand was snapped up by Starbucks in 1999. Made from organic tea leaves, Tazo’s bottled iced teas are affordable and come in a wide variety of flavors. Their teas may be available at every Starbucks counter and grocery store, but they don’t taste mass-produced in the least. If you’re a green tea enthusiast, try the Organic Iced Green Tea, a refreshing light-bodied blend of green tea, spearmint and lemongrass. Other popular flavors include Tazoberry (black tea blended with raspberry and apple juices) and Brambleberry (herbal tea combined with apple and marionberry juices). Although not overly sweet, many of their teas contain cane sugar, so keep an eye on the calorie count featured prominently on the label if you’re watching your intake.
