NASHVILLE TOUR: DAY 3

The Pancake Pantry is a breakfast tradition in Nashville
Pancake Pantry
You can’t leave Nashville without having breakfast at Pancake Pantry. There’s no truer tradition in the city than standing in the line of locals wrapped around the block waiting for a pile of pancakes from this Hillsboro Village hotspot. There are plenty of choices on the menu, but the pancakes are a must. Try all the varieties: from sweet potato and buckwheat to buttermilk and even chocolate chip!

A stroll around downtown’s Second Avenue (day or night) is a great place to people watch and shop for souvenirs. The best of all the honky-tonk bars is Robert’s Western World, home to some of the city’s hottest pickers. You can even pick up a pair of cowboy boots after you imbibe a bit. A few blocks north on Fifth Avenue is Nashville’s arts district, home to a handful of art galleries and the historic Arcade.

LP Field is the home of the Tennessee Titans
LP Field

Between Fourth and Fifth avenues, the Arcade is a walkway lined with lunch spots for downtown workers, but it comes alive at night when the many art galleries open their doors on weekends. Just a block or two south of Broadway on Fourth Avenue is a great place to catch the walking bridge and watch the waters of the Cumberland River’s roiling beneath you. The walking bridge connects downtown with East Nashville, and more specifically LP Field, where the NFL Tennessee Titans play.

End your trip on a tasty note at Caffe Nonna in the Sylvan Park neighborhood in West Nashville. The recipes of chef Daniel Maggipinto’s grandmother — the namesake of this establishment — are what make Nonna special. The house specialty is build-your-own pasta dishes; we’re partial to the basilica and arrabbiata sauces with penne. The wine list is reasonable, and the atmosphere is unforgettable.
