PASO ROBLES TRIP: DAY 2

To get you fueled for your second day of wine tasting, head out on Highway 46 East to Hunter Ranch Golf Course and tuck into the breakfast or lunch fare offered at The Grill (especially the popular Sunday brunch) while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding hills and vineyards.

The eastside of the Paso Robles wine region is most visible along Highway 46, with wineries as distinctive as the wines they make. Enjoy both art and vino at Vina Robles, get your Wild West on at Tobin James Winery or go on a cave tour at Eberle Winery, one of the oldest wineries in the area. South of that corridor, between Paso Robles and the Templeton area, you can explore the serene and scenic grounds of Still Waters Vineyards, the Rhône varietals (and café) at Cass Winery and the outdoor sculpture gardens at Sculpterra Winery.

If you're wined out by now, taste some local olive oil at Olea Farms, or opt for a tour of Happy Acres Family Farm (must be scheduled in advance) and taste some of their farmstead goat cheese and goat cheese ice cream. You could even take off for the Paso Robles Airport for a hot-air balloon ride with Let's Go Ballooning, or poke around the exhibits of the small but intriguing Estrella Warbird Museum.

When you get back to town, revel in all things olive — including a lineup of different oils from throughout the state — at the flagship We Olive store. You might also visit Vivant Cheese, DiRamondo's Cheese Shop and Two Little Birds Bakery for some yummy treats and/or to grab some picnic items for tomorrow.

For dinner, enjoy the Italian fare at either Il Cortile or Buona Tavola, or go for the hearty steak 'n' potato dishes at the Paso Robles Inn.
