The eastside of Paso is home to three very different golf courses: Hunter Ranch, The Links, and Paso Robles Country Club (open to the public). Hunter Ranch is by far the most challenging, but its restaurant — The Grill — is the best choice if you want to combine food and wine. Relax on the scenic outdoor deck and tuck into its above par (in a good way) fare for breakfast, lunch or the popular Sunday brunch, and see which local wines and beers are featured at the bar.

To experience Wine Country from above, check out the helicopter rides from Paso Air Tours. While at the airport, you can poke around the exhibits of the small but intriguing Estrella Warbird Museum.

Several eastside wineries are located on, or in close proximity to, Highway 46 East. For a look at three wineries as distinctive as the wines they make, you can enjoy both art and vino at Vina Robles, get your Wild West on at Tobin James Winery or go on a cave tour at Eberle Winery, one of the oldest wineries in the area. (If it's summertime, see what's scheduled at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre, a state-of-the-art outdoor venue that draws such well-known acts as Tony Bennett, Willie Nelson, and Ringo Starr.)

The wineries north of Highway 46 in San Miguel are equally as varied, ranging from the stunning grounds and sweeping views at Silver Horse, to the small family vineyard at Cinquain Cellars, to the understated opulence at Villa San-Juliette Winery, which is owned by the former producers of "American Idol." To the south, bring along a picnic to the serene grounds of Still Waters, enjoy wine tasting and café bites at Cass Winery, or experience the vineyard expressions from Field Recordings, located in an industrial area that's also home to BarrelHouse Brewing Company, a rising star in the craft beer market. (The powerhouse that is Firestone-Walker Brewing is just up the road, too.)

To top off your day of winetasting, return to Paso Robles proper and indulge in some authentic Italian cuisine from Il Cortile or Buono Tavola, sip on a refreshing margarita at Fish Gaucho, or dive into a hearty burger and beer at Pappy McGregor's.
