When taking a trip, whether it is for business or pleasure, the last thing you want to think about is the possibility of experiencing any kind of emergency. In the event of an illness, natural disaster or political turmoil, when you're far from home, knowing your options concerning safety should be a top priority — and that's why there's On Call International.

A leading provider of medical, security and travel assistance worldwide, On Call comprises a team of experienced, multi-lingual travel and medical experts to help you with any unexpected problems that may arise in your travels — 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, from anywhere in the world. "On any given day, we have up to 70 customers in hospitals throughout the world. Recently, we had to evacuate hundreds of student, business and leisure travelers out of Cairo," said On Call's president and CEO Michael Kelly. The company is also the U.S. member of a 32-partner global network of independent assistance companies called the International Assistance Group, enabling faster responses to emergencies worldwide.

While travel insurance only covers monetary damages, travel assistance provides support and assistance on the ground and immediately in case of an emergency. From lost or stolen documents and credit cards to earthquakes and emergency medical evacuation, the Assistance Coordinators and in-house Medical Director at On Call's Global Response Center will make arrangements to ensure the safety of its members. The company also provides a 24/7 Nurse Helpline, where members can call for medical advice while traveling.

On Call's customized membership options are available to travelers venturing more than 50 miles from home and include annual memberships starting at $225 per year, academic memberships starting at $45 per year, mature membership for those ages 77-85 and even single trip memberships from $55. When compared to the costs of emergency medical evacuations alone — which can run up to $20,000 domestically and up to $100,000 internationally — the cost of a membership seems diminutive.
