This year marks the fifth annual Big Island Film Festival, to be held on the Kohala coast of Hawaii island. "Talk Story" is the name of this year's event, which will celebrate independent narrative filmmakers and their feature films. Screenings will be held day and night from Thursday through Saturday, with daytime flicks shown at the Fairmont Orchid, and nighttime films shown outdoors: the family-friendly Ohana Films will be shown for free at the Shops at Mauna Lani, and the Festival Films at the Hale Hoaloha Pavillion at The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows. Remember to bring lawn chairs for all outdoor films.

On Sunday, the festival hosts its awards ceremony, followed by a Best of the Fest screening of the Audience Choice feature and short films accompanied by Hawaiian music and culture. Other special discussions, presentations and awards will be handed out throughout the four-day festival. Check the website for details.

When: May 12-16

Where: Various venues at Kohala, Hawaii
