Beyond the leis, surf and sunshine, Hawaiians share a unique cultural identity that bases its roots through Asia and the Pacific Rim. The yearly Honolulu Festival seeks to promote awareness and understanding of this culture through a series of educational programs, dance performances and art demonstrations from cultures throughout the world, including Japan, China, Korea, Philippines and Australia. The three-day extravaganza, whose theme this year is "Heart of the Pacific, Creating Our Future," offers activities throughout downtown Honolulu, all culminating in a grand finale parade in Wakiki. Best of all, the entire event is free to residents and the public, making it a great reason to schedule your Hawaiian getaway in March.

When: March 13-15
