Paris, France - Hotel Review

A Chic Boutique Just Steps from the Champs-Élysées

Style and service are key characteristics of the G.L.A. Hotels group, so it's no surprise that the Hotel Beauchamps has both in spades. In 2010 this boutique hotel came under the wing of Grace Leo, whose company co-owns and manages unique lodgings around the globe. Her Paris projects have included the Montalembert and the Hôtel Lancaster, and more recently the trendy Hotel Jules and the chic Hotel Beauchamps.

In a prime location just a block from the Champs-Élysées, Hotel Beauchamps offers 98 rooms and suites on six floors. A variety of sizes are available, including the spacious Privilege level accommodations with smart sitting areas as well as large desks. The eclectic but sophisticated décor has been assembled so the hotel resembles the abode of a well-traveled art collector. He's even been assigned an imaginary identity: Baltazar Beauchamps.

Many guest rooms feature striking showpieces behind the beds — nearly wall-sized reproductions of abstract art by Victor Hugo (apparently writing novels was not his only talent). Design details vary from room to room, but count on interesting doses of contrasting colors and textures, such as a navy wool blanket resting on a fluffy white duvet, or leafy green, velvety pillows placed next to cushions covered with charcoal-colored woven raffia. Each tableau feels carefully crafted, and there's an undertone of serenity that makes this property a welcome retreat to return to at the end of the day.

The lobby is decked out in red and gold, and the lounge area is styled like a library with a fireplace and bookshelves filled with objets d'art. But such charming first impressions are not just limited to what's on the surface; they also apply to the heart of the hotel — the staff. The savvy front desk team offers a wealth of information. Each member enthusiastically provides advice and recommendations, striking the perfect balance between personable and professional.

The on-site restaurant Velvet, a sister establishment of Le Bistrot d'Antoine in Nice, serves lunch and dinner menus showcasing the bright and bold flavors of the Mediterranean. We suggest stopping in for standout dishes such as the Bilbao cod in a rich, savory broth with chorizo, tomatoes and navy beans. In the mornings, the restaurant hosts breakfast service for hotel guests, offering a buffet of petite pastries alongside traditional American favorites including eggs, bacon and silver dollar pancakes.

More dining options and other entertainment are just steps away in the nearby Triangle d'Or, the "Golden Triangle" that is made by the Champs-Élysées, avenue Montaigne and avenue George V. Sightseers will appreciate the proximity of favorite landmarks (the Arc de Triomphe, Louvre and Eiffel Tower), while more the business-minded will find the location convenient for the Palais des Congrès de Paris. There's also a meeting room in the hotel that can accommodate eight people, as well as speedy complimentary Wi-Fi.

For travelers seeking a distinctive boutique experience, the Hotel Beauchamps artfully blends style with comfort to create an atmosphere that is both affable and urbane.
