Living the High Life in Bel-Air

Tucked away in a secluded neighborhood half a mile off Sunset Boulevard, Hotel Bel-Air is an iconic Los Angeles landmark. The distinctive property is set amidst twelve acres of lush gardens, soaring trees, fountains, Mediterranean gardens and shaded courtyards. It is one of the world's top hotels, renowned for offering sophisticated service and serenity since its inception in 1946.

This legendary getaway has long been a haven for celebrities, politicians and even royalty. Famous guests have ranged from Oprah Winfrey and Diana Ross to Robert de Niro and Al Pacino — a prestigious list that is sure to continue to grow, following a comprehensive, two-year refurbishment and redesign, unveiled in the fall of 2011. Now under the umbrella of the Dorchester Collection, whose tony stable also includes The Dorchester in London and Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris, Hotel Bel-Air is more glamorous than ever.

Loyalists will be glad to know that the signature pink, Spanish Colonial-style architecture remains, along with the beloved swans (now enjoying an environmentally friendly Swan Lake). As for the guest rooms, their décor travels from the 1930s through to the 1950s, displaying the best in design from each decade. There are now a total of 103 bedrooms and suites, including new "lofts" and hillside accommodations sumptuously done up with outdoor fireplaces and grand pianos. Always, privacy is assured.

The addition of Spa by La Prairie adds cachet to the hotel's already established reputation for pampering. Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air focuses on California farmer's market cuisine with European and Mediterranean influences — showcasing the culinary expertise of a master. Combining these fresh facilities with beloved old favorites like the oval-shaped swimming pool, Hotel Bel-Air offers its guests the perfect balance of nostalgia and modern living.
