One Night (or Two) in Bangkok
Mixing Business with Pleasure

InterContinental Bangkok
The InterContinental Bangkok at night
If location is a prime consideration when choosing a hotel in Thailand’s capital city, you don’t want to miss a night or two at International Bangkok ("International BKK"). Located on Ploenchit Road, InterContinental BKK is situated directly across from the upscale Erawan Mall and the highly revered Erawan shrine. Hop on the local Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and you are at the swanky Siam Paragon shopping mall—dubbed "the Pride of Bangkok"—in less than ten minutes. And if you’re in town on business, InterContinental BKK is also the perfect hotel, situated in the heart of Bangkok’s commercial center and catering to the business traveler.

InterContinental BKK boasts panoramic cityscape views from each of the 381 guest rooms that include 67 Club InterContinental rooms—complete with 24-hour-a-day butler service—and 39 suites. The hotel’s attention to detail impresses, from the highly knowledgeable Concierge to the whiff of Lemongrass essential oil diffused from aroma lamps situated on every floor. The property is also home to the city’s largest hotel gathering and convention facilities with 22 spacious meeting and banquet rooms. Plans are afoot to expand and upgrade the facilities with a $20 million refurbishment slated for completion in 2008.

Food, glorious food! The InterContinental BKK proudly lays claim to some of the city's top dining establishments, including the Summer Palace with recessed ceilings and wood-paneled columns. The restaurant serves authentic Cantonese cuisine including Dim Sum favorites. While the menu leans toward seafood, other dishes are also offered including sweet barbecued pork, crispy bean curd spring rolls and abalone, to name a few. The restaurant also provides ten private dining rooms, ideal for business meals.  Or try Espresso, the award winning buffet restaurant offering a wide choice of Eastern and Western dishes.

During your stay, be sure to pamper yourself at the hotel’s pièce de résistance: The Royal Health Spa, situated on the 36th floor and connected to the hotel’s swimming pool via a spiral stairway. Catering mostly to hotel guests, the spa is quaint and charming, and the menu features popular offerings ranging from facials and body treatments to massages. For those who delight in an expert facial, we highly recommend the 90-minute "Royal Health Spa Herbal Facial." This is a back-to-nature treatment that deep cleanses the skin with fresh tomato juice and tones with natural cucumber juice. Honey infused with milk replaces the commercial massage oils commonly used in facials, while sandalwood blended in milk gently exfoliates the skin. A yogurt mask completes the treatment, after which your skin is toned with chilled cucumber slices and hydrated with great tea lotion.

With the variety of branded boutiques and mass-market shops lining the streets, there is no lack of choice for the avid shopper staying at InterContinental BKK. Following your spa treatment, hit the shopping malls connected via a sheltered walkway from the hotel and shop till you drop!
