Here's to Having it All
A Hotel with Style and Substance
 |
An evening view of the exterior of the SoHo Metropolitan |
The design-driven SoHo Metropolitan, located in the heart of
the downtown entertainment district, aims high, luxuriously
high. When the hotel opened in 2003, it proclaimed it will be "the city's most stylish
hotel with substance, offering guests the ultimate in luxury
and exceptional service."
We
are easily convinced. First of all, the 88-room boutique SoHo
Met is a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide,
a company of impeccable standards. Next, guests get a hint
of what their stay will be about when entering the sleek,
contemporary lobby graced by a fantastic multicolored glass
canopy by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. Of course, we cannot
live on art alone---although the blond wood and minimally
elegant suites with their café au lait and honey colors
are tasteful enough to eat.

A tastefully decorated guestroom
|
Luxurious marble bath |
Expect
round the clock concierge, maid, valet and room service. A
typical stay in one of the lofty rooms could spell like this:
drink at the Lobby Bar, caviar from room service at 2 a.m.,
sweet dreams in Frette linens and European down duvets; Molton
Brown bath amenities, heated marble floors, facial at the
10,000 square-foot spa, workout session in the state-of-the-art
gym and all your technology and business needs at your fingertips.
Then off to do the first business meeting or to explore the
artsy neighborhood. Everything is tasteful, eclectic, modern
and inviting from decor to the dining. Foodies will be glad
to know that Senses Bakery & Restaurant is the purveyor
of fine gastronomy in town.
Metropolitan
Hotels also operates Metropolitan Hotel Toronto, which houses
the famed Lai Wah Heen (for heavenly dim sum---you'll think
you're in Hong Kong) and the Metropolitan in Vancouver (see
feature) with its award-winning Diva at the Met restaurant.
