Machu Picchu Belmond Sanctuary Lodge
Elevate Your Spirit

As private-jet travelers, we are always in search of the ultimate high, and at 8,200 feet, the Machu Picchu Belmond Sanctuary Lodge offers a heady dose of altitude wellness and is destined to elevate your spirits. This cozy, rustic hotel offers the only lodging located within the sanctuary of Peru’s ancient Machu Picchu Inca citadel, and it’s the closest the 21st century traveler will get to experiencing the world of the magnificent Lost City of the Incas.

The Machu Picchu Belmond Sanctuary Lodge sits on top of a mountain, seconds from the actual ruins. Just walk outside the front door, and you’re in one of the most mysterious and astounding architectural and cultural wonders of the world. Brought to the attention of the Western world by American historian Hiram Bingham in 1911, Machu Picchu continues to astound archaeologists—the empire reached from the Atlantic to the Pacific without a written language, its vast road system wound across the cordillera although the population did not use the wheel, and its enormous stone structures defy the physical abilities of the people who made them.

The Machu Picchu Belmond Sanctuary Lodge can be reached either by helicopter (25 minutes), train (three-and-a-half hours) or foot (four-to-six days) from Cusco. We suggest the helicopter for the spectacular views, although the luxurious Hiram Bingham train runs a close second. Insider tip: Book a terrace guestroom with views of the Machu Picchu ruins and the Sacred Mountain of the Andes.
