American Airlines Launches Daily Nonstop Service Between Los Angeles and Shanghai

This spring marks a milestone for American Airlines, as it becomes the first U.S. airline to launch daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Shanghai. According to the mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, "American Airlines' daily nonstop flight to Shanghai will further strengthen LA's cultural and economic relationship with China." The new LAX/Shanghai flight uses a Boeing 777 with 247 seats. First Class cabin Flagship Suites offer privacy dividers and 1-2-1 across cabin seating, the Next Generation Business Class cabin features fully customizable lie-flat-at-an-angle seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, while Economy has a 2-5-2 seating plan.

While all passengers can enjoy an extensive entertainment library on their own individual touch screen 10.6-inch tilting monitors, premium passengers are also provided Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. First and business class customers can enjoy traditional Chinese amenities onboard, including specially designed menus with select entrées inspired by celebrity chef Sam Choy and a choice of teas served in a teapot with cups specially designed for American's flights. Flights will also be staffed with Mandarin-speaking flight attendants. To celebrate the LAX to Shanghai expansion, American is offering customers the opportunity to earn triple AAdvantage miles by flying on a purchased LAX-to-Shanghai First Class or Business Class fare, adding up to more than 20,000 miles for a one-way trip. Customers who fly on a purchased LAX-to-Shanghai Economy Class fare can earn double AAdvantage miles. The bonus miles offer is valid for travel through June 30, 2011.
