Given the budget-luxe trend in hotels these days (Aloft and Element from Starwood, Hyatt Place, etc.), not to mention the recession, it's notable that the Marriott hotel group is forging ahead with its luxury EDITION brand. Created in partnership with boutique hotelier extraordinaire Ian Schrager, the chain got off to a rough start with The Waikiki EDITION (now The Modern Honolulu). But it was quickly back on its feet with The Istanbul EDITION, a sleek new property with a screening room, three-story ESPA and Cipriani restaurant. Next up: EDITION hotels in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Mexico City. Also on the slate are the buzzed-about The London EDITION to open this year in the former Berners Hotel in Fitzrovia and The New York EDITION to open in 2015 in Manhattan's landmark Clock Tower Building.
