Turkish Airlines' LA to Istanbul Nonstop with Kobe Bryant
Travel and Hotel News
March 3, 2011
Today Turkish Airlines launched the first nonstop air service between Los Angeles and Istanbul, a fourteen-hour journey. Flights from LA are currently scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the goal of flying daily in the near future. To help launch the new route, the airline is offering discounted fares between LA and Istanbul purchased on or before April 30, 2011. To book a flight, visit www.turkishairlines.com or call 800-874-8875. Passengers traveling to or from LA will fly aboard Boeing's new 777-300ER planes, featuring Turkish Airlines' new Comfort Class, which boasts larger seats with more leg room, 10.6-inch monitors with audio visual on-demand services and access to the Internet.
Using sports as a marketing platform, Turkish Airlines signed a two-year contract with LA's own basketball star Kobe Bryant to be the airline's new global brand ambassador. The Lakers star has made numerous endorsements throughout his NBA career, including endorsements for other global brands such as McDonalds, Nike and Coca-Cola. Turkish Airlines is undoubtedly counting on Bryant's own international fame to boost sales, yet there is his size, too; flying is often a cramped experience for tall people. A television commercial featuring Kobe Bryant is currently airing in the U.S.
