"Change is in the Air' with Virgin Atlantic

Children helped by Virgin's "Change is in the Air" program
It’s nice to hear about successful international companies giving back to the communities they serve. Virgin Atlantic recently announced it has begun working with two partners, the UK charities ‘The Travel Foundation’ and ‘Free The Children,’ who both support long-term sustainable change in the airline’s international destinations.  Free The Children is “the world’s largest network of children helping other children through education.” Among its goals are access to education, providing clean water, improving healthcare and alternative income projects for the children’s mothers. The Travel Foundation’s missions include fishing and beekeeping programs in the Caribbean.

Through Virgin’s “Change is in the Air” program, the company will be linking the environmental and social aspects of sustainable development. The arrangement will not only include cash donations from Virgin, but also passenger education and volunteering programs at their numerous destinations. All parties have agreed to a three-year deal that begins June 2010.
