Pyramids of Giza

The pyramids have loomed large in Western minds for a couple millennia — at least ever since the Greek poet Antipator of Sidon listed them as one of the Seven Wonders of the World in the second century BC. And they’re still just as mysterious. Were they built by aliens? Is there some extraordinary force emanating from them? The theories are endless, but likely none of the above are true. They’re technically part of a mausoleum complex but that hasn’t stopped our fascination with the three pyramids at Giza, lying just outside of Cairo. The tallest of the stone triumvirate reaches about 450 feet, making it the tallest manmade structure in the world for 3,800 years until a Gothic cathedral spire in England was built in the fourteenth century.
