Connoisseurs Scotland Malt Whisky Trail - Travel Special

Sip and Stay on Scotland's Historic Malt Whisky Trail

For whisky aficionados, Connoisseurs Scotland is showcasing two luxury hotels in the Scottish Highlands — otherwise known as the source of the "water of life."

The extensive whisky collection at The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in Speyside, Scotland
The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa and Rocpool Reserve Hotel are located in Speyside, the nation's largest whisky-producing region and home to more than half of Scotland's distilleries. Each makes an ideal base for exploring the 86-mile Malt Whisky Trail and discovering the distinctive nuances of Scotch, from rich, sherry-flavored malts to the light, complex floral malts the area is known for.

The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa
Tucked into eleven wooded acres, this hotel offers a selection of more than 100 malt whiskies and access to well-known distilleries such as Benromach, where you can hand-fill your own bottle; Glen Moray, featuring comprehensive tastings; and Strathisla, producer of the Chivas Regal brand. With the Partner Stays Free package, a second guest may stay for free when a single-rate Executive or Deluxe room is booked Monday through Thursday. Available through the end of the year, reduced rates range from £199-£229 and include Scottish breakfast. To book this or other specials, go to www.marcliffe.com

Rocpool Reserve Hotel
A luxury escape with an hour's drive of four historic distilleries, this property is also home to the elegant Chez Roux Restaurant. Guests can spend a day exploring Tomatin, the birthplace of modern whisky distilling; Glen Ord, known for its sweet, dry malt whisky; Dalmore, offering an extensive sampling selection; and Glenmorangie, a Scottish favorite founded in 1843. Other attractions include boat cruises on Loch Ness and Cairngorms National Park. Rates through the end of year range from £185-£395, based on double occupancy, including breakfast and taxes. Seasonal specials are also available. For more information, go to www.rocpool.com
