Bouquet, The Wine Game — Review

Trivia Meets Wine

Trivial Pursuit meets Monopoly, plus wine!

If you know and love board games such as Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit, you already know what Bouquet is all about. The unique twist? Instead of real estate and geography, it’s all about wine, with questions such as "What does the acronym ABC mean?" "Is sake a distillation of rice?" or "What are the flavor characteristics of the Merlot grape?"

Beautifully designed with wooden dice, colorful graphics and charming cork pieces, Bouquet was created by Swedish sommelier, Britt-Marie Backe and incorporates educational fun for wine amateurs and connoisseurs alike.

The wine corks act as game pieces that represent Asia, Australia, Europe, South America, North America and Africa. Players travel around the world of wine in pursuit of one card from each of the six categories: Area, Chateau/Producer, Fortified Wine, Grape, Spirits and Vocabulary. Correctly answer the questions on the backside of the card and it is yours. The first to collect all six wins.

As in Monopoly, there are comical "chance cards" that will send you back to the start for issues like "drinking problems" that require the Betty Ford Clinic’s immediate attention. Though you won’t find any "get out of jail free" cards, some cards can advance a player three steps forward or add a bonus category card to his/her collection.

So grab a bottle of wine, gather a group of game- and wine-loving friends and enjoy a fun educational night, even if it does land you in the Betty Ford Clinic.
