A bottle of Lost Canyon Winery 2010 Ruxton Vineyard Chardonnay, our wine of the week

Lost Canyon Winery
2010 Ruxton Vineyard Chardonnay

Russian River Valley, CA

Lost Canyon was founded to celebrate the cool climate regions of Northern California. Its aim is to showcase the distinctive characteristics of some of the region's most noted single vineyards. Currently, the winery works with the growers of five distinctive, highly regarded sites in the Russian River, Carneros and Sonoma Coast to produce finely crafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The 2010 Ruxton Vineyard Chardonnay comes from an eastern-facing vineyard composed of sandy loam topsoil over a base of sandstone. A bright and zesty wine, it offers Asian pear and stone fruit aromas and flavors mingled with Meyer lemon and grapefruit acidity. It teases the front of the palate with a sweet-tart note, which evolves to showcase the vineyard's minerality toward the back of the palate. A lingering dried apricot note comes out on its reasonably long finish. The wine's good acidity and balance would make it a pleasing summertime aperitif. Or try it with a seasonal heirloom tomato and peach salad, cold roast chicken with peppery arugula and citrus vinaigrette or poached salmon with an apricot salsa.
