2008 Maggie's Reserve Zinfandel

Sonoma Valley, CA

Rosenblum Cellars boasts 50 different wines in their lineup, including Syrah, Viognier, Grenache, Carignane, Tannat and Black Muscat to name a few, but their focus is on Zinfandel. The winery strives to truly showcase "California's" grape, by producing Zinfandels from regions all over the state. Over the past three decades, the winery has received top accolades from the biggest publications in the wine trade for many of the more than one dozen Zinfandels they produce each year. The 2008 Maggie's Reserve Zin is a big, sweet, chocolaty wine with ripe black cherry and cocoa aromas. In the mouth, its flavors are of black cherry and blackberry syrup, dried plums and a hint of pomegranate and spice at the back of the palate. Although its berry and cherry sweetness is at the forefront, the wine's vibrant acidity, body and length keep the fruit's ripe flavors from being overpowering. Just watch out for the alcohol, which measures a whopping 16 per cent! You will want to serve it with food, perhaps something hearty like a pepper-crusted steak or barbecue ribs, grilled turkey breast or dark chocolate cake with a black cherry compote.
