Top 10 Prestige "Tete de Cuvee" Champagnes 2009

Pol Roger 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs

Champagne Pol Roger
Extra Cuvee de Reserve
1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs

What makes Pol Roger special? Established in Epernay in 1849, it remains one of the few luxury Champagne firms that is still family-owned. Their cellars, which extend over four miles long, are on two levels. The deeper cellar maintains a lower temperature than most Champagne cellars, including their own higher one. This lower temperature slows the second fermentation, encouraging a finer mousse. This youthful offering believed by many to be the "crown jewel of Pol Roger" is made from 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs. The freshness of this Brut Chardonnay calls out for a pairing with fresh fish or a light appetizer. With age, it will delight even more.

Price: $100

Should you prefer dominance of Pinot Noir, you may sample the 1995 Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill; $196
