Originally grown in Alsace along the Rhine, between the Vosges and the Black Forest, this type of wine is more pungent and full-bodied than most other white wine varietals. The golden-yellow or copper-toned wine can vary in saturation of color, depending on the ripeness of the grape, which is naturally dark pink in color.
