Lagrein Grape Varietal Definition
Lagrein is a red grape varietal primarily grown in the Tyrol region of northern Italy. Its name would appear to derive from that of the Lagarina valley of Trentino.
Lagrein produces highly acidic and tannic wines, which makes them ideal for blending with those that are less tannic. On its own, Lagrein can be extremely dry. Though rare outside Italy, it can also be found in California and Australia.
